English Camp GIBS: As One of a Fun Way to Learn English Together
ALALAK, 2/5 - Learning foreign languages, especially English, is very important these days. Learning English will make it easier for us to communicate with foreigners outside Indonesia, of course, this increases your chances of making friends with other people from various countries. Even in the world of work, good English skills can also expand connections! You will certainly be more confident when talking to strangers.
In this case, SMP-SMA GIBS made a lot of programs that push their students to use English more often, mainly in speaking. Besides the AWESOME program (A Week School Mode in English) which is also held by GIBS, we also have English Camp. It is a program that requires students in one batch to sleep in classes for one night instead of in the dorm, and they will speak full English there.

English Camp has been held since 2018, which means 6 years of experience. English Camp has Mr. Awal and Mr. Ain as Persons in charge of its program. Mr. Awaludin as a PIC for SMP and Mr. Ain as a PIC for SMA. The way English Camp works is that one batch will be gathered in one building, it can be the Nurhayati Building or the Education-Proposed Building, and then they will do games, conversations, and activities that push them to use English.

“Basically, English Camp is a program that leads you to speak foreign language more. In English Camp, they will do a lot of activities that keep their mouths open to speak English.” A little statement by Mr. Awaludin as a PIC for Junior High School’s English Camp.
On 3rd of May 2024, SMP GIBS just did an English Camp for the 9th batch, 7 grade students. There are some activities they did such as quizzes, games, and they also did dinner together. It is an opportunity for them to learn while they get to know each other.

“For me as a committee, it is a very good way to improve their abilities to speak English. Such as, we share stories with each other, we do a ton of chit-chatting and I think it’s good enough to make them lighter to speak English more.” Said Naya, one of the committees that is involved in this program.
Hope would not come true without some effort, Mr. Awal hoped that the next English Camp would be more creative, joy-able, and more games. “I expect that the next English Camp for the 10th batch will be more joyful and cheerful. I hope all the committees push their creativity to make games and activities so that the program runs well and smoothly.” Mr. Awal said at the end of the interview session. (Nvy)
